WHO WHAT WHERE WHEN
Starting on the Blaze project, the research methodology and approach was slightly different. MTB riders are in some senses more personalized and style oriented ( not talking about spandex and weight weenie bikes ). The MTB rider that isnt a CC rider is someone that loves the outdoors, loves the excitement and usually enjoys the social interaction that riding a MTB in the woods offers. The Blaze was developed with that in mind, offering a style forward helmet that has the creature comforts of BOA, Fidlock a forward facing light mount for night rides, and a goggle friendly visor for those that find themselves needing a little more vision protection. The research effort pushed into 15 states, over 45 bike shops and rider feedback out the ears. Massive efforts were made to understand how the MTB user shops, what they look for in product and even more.. what they look for in brands they support.

FINAL DESIGN - HAND SCULPTED
The design of the Blaze was focused on the high end MTB rider. The shape was not only derived from Bontrager's new forma language in which I developed, but also created its new spin that is leading the charge for all of our MTB line. The evolution of the shape was to give a more focused design language while still utilizing a broad surface approach to styling and detailing. This simple yet refined shape allows Blaze to work as a standalone and also gives opportunity for color breakups and graphic opportunities.

FINAL DESIGN - CAD
Refinements were made in CAD after hand modeling was complete. Working with the vendor we realized we needed a front center bridge on the helmet due to testing concerns - this change was done with the vendor and ID group on the fly as the helmet was being tooled. Development was complete and the helmet was finalized with a 3D print.
