AERO CONCEPT
The concept for the speaker came up with researching E-Road bikes, we found that users with these bikes were in love with the integration of technology and would geek out over small nuances with design and integration. I then realized that this isn't only with eBike riders, but with riders and society as a whole. Everybody wants to be connected. Speed eBikes top out and can cruise at 25mph, that added wind noise can effect focus and the overall ride quality. Realizing that there is an opportunity for an open ear speaker and the ability to reduce ambient wind noise, the focus was set on creating this concept. Tested in the wind tunnel, I optimized the shape of the case for aero flow, and was able to reduce ambient wind noise by 25%. Mounted to the straps you can swap between helmets as well as adjust as needed to your helmet fit and sound quality.

Bluetooth
With E bike riders demanding more integration to their rides, we went back to the drawing board and asked how we can help all cyclists. Bluetooth connectivity creates a unique opportunity to connect to the Bontrager app, but also to your phone and navigation for easy use and safe travel.
Modular
The development of a product that can be swapped between helmets was critical. Using one of the only consistent areas of the helmet; the straps offer a unique mounting platform for an electronic device.
A closer connection
The foil shape and integration/ location on the straps means the speaker is not only creating wanted noise, but reducing ambient wind noise. Validated in the wind tunnel, the concept is proven to reduce ambient wind noise over 25%

WHO WHAT WHERE WHEN
The user of this concept was developed mainly for E-Bike users. But after conducting the research, I realized that every cyclist suffers from ear fatigue from wind noise. From pro cyclists to commuters; the wind noise will always be there. Having the ability to hear the world around you while not interrupting music is essential for most riders. Even when not in use - the aero benefit reduces wind noise, while keeping an open ear environment.
THE COMPETITION
The bone conducting speaker has gained popularity over the years by all types of active users - the ability to keep a open ear while exercising is a fantastic way to enjoy both music and safety for hearing the world around you. The market is rather small - as few companies have invested the time needed to develop such a speaker. The following are NOT helmet products ( with the exception of the Coros helmet ) and offer no passive wind cancelation.
Aftershokz - $150
Coros helmet ( built in bone conducting speaker ) $100
Tayogo Bone Conduction Headphones - $50

PACKAGING CONCEPT
XXX's bold graphics were designed to reinforce the idea that even the smallest details can make the biggest impact. Along with celebrating the small speakers in their fit and finish the packaging design and detailing offer a high end feel through the process of purchase to installation on the helmet. With the introduction of a premium electronic, comes the need for a packaging solution to compliment the level of finish that is demanded my the sports most critical 'unboxers'. The concept of the packaging solution is to showcase the speakers, while also maintaining and showing off the XXX brand language. Inspired by packaging used by apple, it presents the speakers in a finished and complete concept that utilizes a recycled carboard box and a recycled plastic liner.
